South Bend, IN (AHN) - The future of football head coach Charlie Weis will be determined shortly after the end of the season, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said Thursday.

Swarbrick, one of two men who will decide the fate of Weis, reportedly indicated Thursday that an announcement regarding Weis' job will be made about a week after the season finale.

The disappointing loss to Navy is viewed as a big stumbling block in the return of Weis, who was hired on Dec, 2004 after first choice Urban Meyer accepted the coaching job at the University of Florida.

The Fighting Irish were building momentum prior to the Navy clash and had a 6-2 record entering the Nov. 7 tilt.

That setback dampened Notre Dame's BSC bid.

It was also the second failure of Weis to triumph over the Midshipmen in the past three years.

Swarbrick indicated that the Navy outcome was a disappointment, but added that a number of factors, including performance on the field will be considered in determining Weis' future.

Notre Dame (6-4) is aiming for a bowl bid with its final two games starting Saturday when it hosts Connecticut (4-5).
