Iginla's Day Out: Star's Hat Trick Lifts Flames Over Kings

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - It was a Jarome Iginla matinee.

Iginla netted a hat trick, as the Calgary Flames defeated the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 Saturday.

Iginla posted one score in every period that led to his ninth-career hat trick.

His first goal came 13 seconds into the first period on a snap shot that defeated Kings goalie Jonathan Quick (27 saves).

Drew Doughty's blast tied the game 1-1 in the following period, and Alexander Frolov scored the go-ahead goal less then a minute later for LA.

Frolov went 10 games without a goal and replaced Ryan Smyth,who has an upper body injury.

Smyth is expected to be out at least a month.

Iginla evened it up at 2-2 during a power play for his 14th goal of the season. The veteran has 11 goals in nine games.

The Flames put the game away in the third with three goals.

Daymond Langkow scored on a short-handed goal, and Iginla tallied his 15th score of the season making it 4-2 Calgary.

David Moss added a power-play goal at 19:14 to wrap up the victory.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 23 saves for the Flames, who improved to 13-6-2.

The Kings fell to 13-9-2.

NHL leading scorer Anze Kopitar did collect an assist in the second period.

Kopitar has 32 points, but has slowed down in his last five games, recording three assists and no goals.
