CDC Notices Rise In Pneumonias Associated With H1N1

Washington, DC (AHN) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has noticed an uptick in pneumonias that are coinciding with cases of H1N1, or the swine flu.

The CDC stated on its Web site that there is "good evidence" that the 2009 H1N1 strain may be responsible for an increase in pneumococcal disease, especially in the Denver, Colo. area.

Most of these cases have been seen in adults ages 20 to 59 years old. Typically, these types of pneumonias happen in people 65 and older.

CDC investigators theorize that the increase may be happening outside the Denver area.
