Tehran, Iran (AHN) - Iran was sharply rebuked for its nuclear activities in a resolution passed Friday by the United Nation's nuclear watchdog governing body.

The resolution, which passed 25-3, with six abstentions, marked the first time in four years that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had passed a resolution censoring Iran for its nuclear program.

While Iran has claimed its nuclear program was for peaceful energy purposes, it also disclosed in September that it was secretly building a nuclear facility in Qom, in addition to the facility in Natanz. The IAEA governing body on Friday also demanded that Iran stop developing the Qom nuclear enrichment site.

The United States has expressed concerns that Iran is not developing nuclear facilities for peaceful purposes but instead plans to develop nuclear weapons. Friday's resolution passed with support from Russia and China, which is a departure from the past.
