Thrashers Pound 'Canes With Late Rally

Raleigh, NC (AHN) - Defenseman Tobias Enstrom tallied three assists and Ondrej Pavelec stopped 32 shots, as the Atlanta Thrashers rallied to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 6-4 Friday.

Ilya Kovalchuk had a goal and an assist, Slava Kozlov, Maxim Afinogenov and Marty Reasoner all contributed to improve the Thrashers' record to 12-7-3.

Erik Cole added a goal in the first with a backhander before Carolina pounded Atlanta for three during the second period.

Stephane Yelle and Sergei Samsonov scored, and Matt Cullen's tip-in gave Hurricanes goalie Manny Legace (28 saves) a lead.

That lead would dissipate less then three minutes in the following frame, as Atlanta overpowered Carolina's defense tying it 4-4.

Kozlov's wrist shot on Bryan Little's pass made it 4-2.

Kovalchuk followed from the slot to score the third goal, and  Maxim Afinogenov notched the equalizer with a backhander.

Rich Peverley blasted the winning goal 13:47 to drop the Hurricanes to 5-15-5.
