Chapel Hill, NC (AHN) - Deon Thompson scored 23 points and grabbed eight boards to lead North Carolina Tar Heels to an 80-73 win over the Nevada Wolf Pack Sunday in a non-conference tilt at Dean Smith Center.

Ed Davis turned in 16 points and 15 rebounds for the defending national champs Tar Heels, who improved to 6-1.

With the win, UNC head coach Roy Williams notched his 600th career victory.

The feat enabled Williams to become the 33rd coach to register at least 600 wins in the history of NCAA Division I.

It also gave North Carolina a 5-0 mark in its all-time series with Nevada.

The Tar Heels took a 46-39 edge at the break, but struggled against the Nevada defense in the second half.

The scrappy Wolf Pack managed to match UNC's vaunted firepower in the second half 34-34, but failed to record an upset.

Armon Johnson finished with 20 points to pace Nevada (2-3).
