Manila, Philippines (AHN) - Senator Richard Gordon and former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Bayani Fernando have joined forces in seeking the highest and second-highest office in the Philippines. They will run for president and vice president, respectively, under one political party.

Gordon and Fernando announced their team-up Tuesday afternoon before filing their certificates of candidacy (COCs) at the Commission on Elections office in Manila. They will run under their party named Bagumbayan.

The two promises jobs and "transformational politics" if they are elected into office.

Bayani was one of the earliest presidential aspirants who declared their candidacy. But the administration Lakas-Kampi-CMD coalition did not choose him as its standard bearer prompting him to bolt out from the party. He approached Gordon to be his running mate but eventually agreed to be the vice presidential candidate Monday night.
