Orlando, FL, United States (AHN) - A Central Florida man has been charged with scalding his infant son with hot water because the 5-month-old dirtied his diaper, according to authorities.

Police refused Lyndon Baines Barfield bail on Monday after charging him with child neglect and causing bodily harm, officials reported.

According to police reports, Barfield allegedly put his son in the tub with the hot water running and left him unattended as he answered the phone. Barfield returned after hearing the child screaming, but realized the bathroom door had been locked from the inside. He picked the locked, picked up the child and dried him off, but noticed the boy's skin had been severely blistered. Barfield then called 911.

The child was being treated Monday at an area hospital, authorities said.
