Floral City, FL, United States (AHN) - A Florida artist has taught some of her horses how to express themselves via canvas in what she considers an abstract expressionist style.

In a recent interview, Cheryl Ward, who is a self-proclaimed assistant to the artists, said she simply pours out the paint for her four horses and lets them create their masterpieces. According to Ward, the horses like to hold the brushes between their teeth and move it up and down.

The idea came to Ward in 2002 when she was dealing with a troubled horse. She taught the horse to paint as an outlet.

Ward said the trick is to make the activity attractive to the animals and not pressure them into doing it.

Ward hangs the finished works of art in the Florida Artist Gallery in Floral City. Many of the paintings have been sold, some for as much as $3,000.
