Author Spotlight: Nancy Horan
Nancy Horan's choice of subject matter for her first novel titled Loving Frank was influenced by living in Oak Park, Illinois, the home of some of Frank Lloyd Wright's most famous homes. Horan describes in an interview on her website, the joy of discovering a new side to Wright. "Anyone who lives in Oak Park, Illinois, as I did for twenty-four years, knows something about Frank Lloyd Wright...When I toured Wright's home and studio several times, I noticed the guides didn't say much about Mamah; understandably, their focus is on his work and family life. What little I learned about her piqued my interest, though."

  The Rocker ( *** )
The Rocker is a family rock-n-roll comedy and a fun ride. Wilson plays Robert "Fish" Fishman, a drummer who is unceremoniously dumped from his rock band just as they're about to erupt, go platinum, and become world-famous. Twenty years later he gets a shot at revenge...and fame.

The Longshots ( *** )
For further proof of the adage that sports movies aren't really about sports, look no further than The Longshots. There's hardly a convincing moment in the on-the-field action sequences, and yet this sweet-natured dramedy is an enjoyable and satisfying family entertainment. It's inspired by the story of the first and only female player in the history of the Pop Warner football tournament. Keke Palmer is fatherless Jasmine Plummer who, at the age of 11, becomes the only girl on her local Pop Warner team in Minden, Illinois. Playing quarterback, no less. Ice Cube plays her former-football-star uncle, who helps her learn how to play football.

Hamlet 2 ( ** )
Oddball comedies live on the border between funny-haha and funny-peculiar. It's always a question of which side of that border they spend more time on. Hamlet 2 is an oddball comedy that sounds funnier than it plays, and thus has us staring at it dumbfounded nearly as often as we're smiling or laughing. It's about an eccentric high school drama teacher who writes and stages a sequel to Shakespeare's acknowledged greatest tragedy -- tricky business indeed when you consider that most of the major characters in Hamlet met their demise during the original play.
