Chinese oil firm gets $2.2 billion stake in controversial U.S. shale oil fracking industryChinese oil company Sinopec has invested $2.2 billion in a deal with Devon Energy to get access to shale oil deposits in the United States through the controversial process known as fracking. The deal gives Sinopec a one-third stake in five of Oklahoma-based Devon's new shale projects.

U.S. military seeks new supply routes into Afghanistan to avoid PakistanWhile the U.S. military admitted mistakes Thursday that led to the Nov. 26 NATO bombing of Pakistani troops, a new Senate report underscored the need to find different supply routes into Afghanistan that avoid Pakistan. The bombing that killed 24 soldiers prompted the Pakistani government to shut down a key supply route into Afghanistan used by the U.S. military.

Radioactive water leaks at Japanese nuclear plantWorkers at Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear facility plant have discovered a leak of 45 metric tons of contaminated, radioactive water, according to a statement Monday from operator Tokyo Electric Power Company.
It is not yet clear if the contaminated water reached the Pacific Ocean.
