Connecticut officers, head of police union charged with civil rights violationsFour police officers in a southern Connecticut town, including the head of the police union, have pleaded not guilty to allegations they assaulted, unlawfully arrested and violated the civil rights of Hispanics, as well as intimidated other officers who tried to cooperate with a federal probe. The charges follow a U.S. Justice Department report that East Haven police engaged in a practice of discrimination against Latinos.
