Guard digs out Alaska town covered in 18 feet of snowDozens of National Guard troops have arrived in Cordova, Alaska, to help the tiny fishing town dig out from weeks of snow storms that have collapsed roofs, trapped people in their homes and triggered avalanches. In just the past few weeks, 18 feet of snow have fallen on Cordova. Removal efforts have been stymied because there is nowhere to put the stuff. Drifts have been measured up to 14 feet.
